Abstract:
Desalination of brackish water is a typical process for fresh water supply in areas with reduced water content. Reverse Osmosis (RO) is promising technology for small, mid and large size desalinization plants because it produces high quality water with low energy consumption than other processes such as evaporation processes.
In this study, a detailed mathematical model is developed in order to provide insight into the optimum process design. The model is based on the solution–diffusion theory. The thermo-physical properties are estimated using Electrolyte NRTL activity model.
The mathematical model results are compared with DOW ROSA software, which used to design DOW FILMTEC™ membrane modules. The results of developed mathematical model are in good agreement with mentioned software and could be used for advanced RO systems.
