Abstract:
The principle of uveitis treatment involves the treatment of an acute episode, prevention of relapses and resolving complications. The aim is to draw attention to the use of corticosteroids in uveitis, method of administration and possible complications. Corticosteroids in the treatment of uveitis used primarily because of its immunosuppressive effect. The effect of steroid hormones of the immune system is local and systemic. Many preparations are currently available, have different features, therefore, needs different drug concentrations. Topical steroids are the best choice in anterior uveitis treatment. Other option is peribulbar injections of steroids. Systemic steroids are the initial choice of therapy in most patients with bilateral vision threatening endogenous uveitis. Corticosteroids are the drugs of choice in uveitis treatment, wherein the dosage, route application of the drug and length of treatment depends on the severity of the disease.
