Abstract:
Corona virus (virus SARS-CoV-2) is a new strain of virus which caused Covid-19 pandemic. Disease spreading in Europe was mainly caused by droplet transmission Pearson to Pearson. Beside transmission by sick patients, virus is transmissed by asymptomatic patients. Covid-19 pandemic is arguably one of the most difficult public health issues modern world has encountered. In this global combat laboratories have rather important role. Since the beginning of the pandemic laboratories had to reorganize in order to implement Covid-19 diagnostics. Clinical laboratories are mainly in focus mostly due their importance in molecular testing, detection and serological monitoring. Protecting health professionals is critical point for controlling pandemic, both individual level for care continuity and collective level in order to prevent transmission. According to World Health Organisation (WHO) and Public Health Institute of Republic of Srpska, health professionals who are taking samples as well as others who take over samples and perform analysis, must strictly stick to the guidelines for using personal protective equipment. Basic guidelines are: in procedures where it comes to generating larger amounts of aerosol, like in intubation, non-invasive ventilation, tracheotomy, manual ventilation prior to intubation and bronchoscopy, respirators are mandatory (certified N95, EU FFP2), clean, non-sterile gowns with long sleeves, gloves, googles, or face shields. Based on scientific works published during Covid-19 pandemic, we observed guidelines and recommendations for health professional is protection, prevention of transmission during direct contact with patients and using personal protective equipment.
